About the speakers:
Fatima Jabeen is from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, the Coal Capital of India. I have a background on Zoology and Forestry & Wildlife. She completed her post-graduation in Wildlife Science from Amity Institute of Forestry and Wildlife, Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh.Wildlife photography, birding and trekking keeps her motivated and gives her peace and belongingness with the nature. Her interest areas also includes studying the faunas of North-western Himalayas. Presently she is working as a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) at Zoological Survey of India, HARC, Solan, Himachal Pradesh on a project titled “Molecular systematics, phylogeny and Phylogeography of Mayflies (Ephemeroptera)” of North Western Himalaya. Apart from academics her major interest lies in art (Madhubani/Mithila, warli, collage, sculpting, illustration, wall paintings and Buddhist art – artistic practices influenced by Buddhism). She taught all these art forms to the children from hometown. Fatima believes that Maya Angelou greatly shaped her thoughts and inspired her to teach. One of her favourite quotes she remembers is “When you learn, teach; when you get, give”. Fatima, joined Helping Brainz in 2018 as a weekend volunteer and it gave her all the chance to be with the kids. Helping Brainz’s child empowerment project at Bakhtawarpur Govt School, Noida, “Ujjwal” – a day with chotus is still the most memorable event for her. Fatima is presently focusing to work for the children from the mountains. She is presently a project leader with Helping Brainz.
Debashish Panda is an Indian Wildlife Biologist. He was born and raised in a small town of Balasore, Odisha. Balasore is best known for Chandipur beach and the Indian Ballistic Missile Defense Program’s integrated test range of DRDO. It is also known for its biodiversity, surrounded by Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary which is adjacent to Similipal Tiger Reserve. Debashish did his Master’s dissertation on “Population Status and Conservation of Indian Horseshoe Crab along Chandipur Coastal Line, Balasore, India” under Dr. Basudev Tripathy, Scientist- D, ZSI, Kolkata, India and got a grant awarded from “Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, UK” on Horseshoe Crab along Chandipur Coastal line. During a small survey of Striped Hyena (not scientific) in Balukhand-Konark Wildlife Sanctuary, Odisha Debashish was fascinated towards Striped Hyena. Currently he is appointed as a Research Fellow on a project entitled “Spatial Ecology and Ecosystem services of Striped Hyena in relation to land use pattern in Rajasthan, India” under Dr. Randeep Singh, Assistant Professor, Amity Institute of Forestry and Wildlife, Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
